Proceeds from the Forest City Cycling Challenge will go to the MINDS project at St. Joseph’s Health Care London.  This Mental Health Incubator for Disruptive Solutions (MINDS) is Canada's first social innovation lab working with transitional-aged youth (ages 16 to 25) as co-researchers to tackle complex mental health system challenges. MINDS uses social innovation, collective impact, and youth participatory-action research to strategically develop and evaluate high-potential interventions that tackle the wicked and growing problem of mental ill-health and addictions in transitional-aged youth in our community.

Your support will enable the MINDS team to develop new resources and tools that will improve access to care for youth experiencing mental illness. During this period of heightened social isolation and uncertainty, your support of mental health initiatives is more important than ever.

  • Despite local efforts to develop targeted mental health services, mental illness and addictions among youth in London-Middlesex are alarmingly increasing.

  • In Canada, 18.5% of youth aged 15 to 24 are affected by mental and substance use disorders.

  • According to Statistics Canada, preliminary surveys suggest 64% of youth are experiencing a negative impact following physical distancing requirements.

  • Youth were also the most likely to report symptoms consistent with moderate to severe anxiety (41%).
